Currently I am consulting as a Web Author and Artist about the Bay Area here in California and virtually on the Internet. Some of the consulting tasks that I perform are:
- Bringing up systems as WWW Servers
- Creating Web Sites
- Advising Webmasters on site content
- Helping companies come up on the Internet
- Websitting
Following is a list of sites that I have consulted for:
- Art on the Net (art.net) is a WWW server and site that I founded and am site webmaster. This system was running on a Sun Sparc 10 (Sun OS 4.1.4). I have since upgraded it to a Pentium PC running Gnu Linux (Redhat 5.2). Some of the tasks involved in bringing up this site were:
- Installing and configuring the operating system so that it is secure.
- Installing system tools (ie. wu-ftp, sendmail, tcp wrappers, emacs, DNS resolver)
- Installing WWW software (ie. Apache and Cern HTTPD Servers, Netscape, Mosaic)
- Setting up the actual Web site and helping other artists come up on the Internet. Assist artists in setting up their individual studios and gallery rooms on the www server, www.art.net.
- Installed Procmail and SmartList to help fight spam.
(Started on June 1994 - Constantly Updating and Changing)
- RatRights.Org Started a new project which involves getting more rights for animals of all kinds, while focusing on the rodent family. It's been a wonderful experience and I have made many new friends in the process, humans included.
(June 2001 - Current)
- Oracle Worked as a Global DNS Administrator for this company. It was really interesting. I must say that I have enjoyed all the toys I had been acquiring such as a Palm Pilot, cell phone, laptop, DSL and more computers to play with than I can count. Alot of these systems are Sun's running Solaris. It's been awhile since I worked with that OS as I have mostly been using RedHat's version of GNU Linux.
(April 2000 - June 2001)
- Wadsworth Publishing Company This is a contract position in which I assisted in a site migration from a NT server to a Sun server running Solaris 5.6. Gave technical advice on issues as they surfaced in the migration. Worked as a site webmaster and made many corrections to the site's webpages that were requested by the different departments. Trained another consultant on how the company's website worked so that he can take over as webmaster.
(November 1999 - December 1999)
- Foothill - DeAnza Community College District Supported their Internet Registration Website which allows for class registration via the web. I filled in for the project lead while she was on sebatical for 8 months and supported the programmers, website designers, and faculty that interfaced with this project. I helped the IS group move their webservers from a SGI platform to Pentium PC's running Gnu Linux (RedHat 5.2). We increased the number of servers from being just one machine to being a cluster of three.
(June 1998 - February 1999)
- Catalog.com is a web hosting service. On this site, I helped create the graphics and art which were based from an oil painting I created called "Art on the Net". I also helped with phone support for this company before it was bought by a larger company. The site graphics have since changed.
(October 1994 - June 1998)
- Accent Arts is a local art store here in Palo Alto, California. I created their initial website which has since been redesigned by an artist who works for the owner.
(March 1997)
- ULN was a site I did websitting for while their webmaster and main programmer was away on vacation in India. This was a unique opportunity and I enjoyed helping the site evolve from one website to a triple server site. They were running Solaris on PC's and a NT server. The site is now called BestPrices.Com.
(August - October, 1996)
- Kevin Poulsen's Space is the personal website of Kevin Lee Poulsen which I initally created. It is now maintained by Kevin and his artist friend.
(July 1996)
- Harbin Hot Springs is a site that I helped start. From this initial design, the people of Harbin have carried on and created a very nice site.
(March 1996)
- Bedoar and Whitfield Fine Art is a site that I initially constructed. Featured here are fine art prints by Robert Bedoar. This site is now maintained by others.
(February 1996)
- Watercourse Way is one of my favorite tubbing establishments here in the Bay Area. Currently I am curating their website.
(August 1995)
- Indian River Gift Fruit was a site that I designed and brought on-line. You can go to this site and find out about the awesome fruit grown in Florida and order some so it's shipped to your door. This site is now maintained by the owner.
(September 1995)
- The Archives of Raymond Loewy is a website that I designed and brought on-line. It gives information about an upcoming auction in France, information about the archives, and background on who Raymond Loewy was.
(May 1995)
- Train Hoppers is a site that has information on train hopping. I helped create some of the graphics for them.
(July 1995)
- Wells Fargo Bank is a large California based bank. I worked here as a consultant and created web site content for their Internet Web Server. I also gave advice on graphics and page layout.
